From Paper to Processor
Glad to see I haven't lost you, so soon. Anyhow, it's time I explain myself. My goal is to recreate the entirety of the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, Anaheim California, in CAD. Briefly, for those as of yet unfamiliar, CAD, or Computer-Aided Design is the video game I like to play with when I'm bored, but besides that, CAD is a term used to describe the variety of programs used by industry professionals to design houses, new products, personal projects, etc. In my specific case, the CAD programs in question are currently Revit, Autocad, and Rhino. Each of these has its own specific toolset that makes it better geared towards one type of design than the other.
So what's with the title? Well, one summer in middle school, I came across a little site called Haunted Dimensions, and decided I'd try my hand in building my own miniature mansion. It went about as well as could be expected, considering I'd never done anything like it before. It's crooked in more than a few places, and I didn't even bother to add the detail of the windows and doors.
Fast forward to about 3 months ago, and given it looked like I was going to be staying at home for a while thanks to COVID-19 I decided I wanted to rebuild my middle school project, this time with better paper, and all the experience of two years in design classes. It only took me one wall to realize that this wasn't going to be accurate enough for me, if I was going to make this model, I was going to make it perfect.
After days of diligent internet digging, I was able to find a few plan and elevation drawings, but during that process, I realized that if I wanted a set of plans that were accurate, and that I could read, I would have to draw my own.
Finally, all this brings me to today. I've reached out to a few people all over our haunted little community looking for plans, and I've told many, if not most of you, that I'd keep you up to date with my progress.
So, although not all of what I have, here is a good sample of the plans I've drawn up so far:
This is all moving pretty quickly at this point, I understand, but now that this blog is up, updates should come more frequently, better detailing all these drawings that, in my unbiased opinion, are quite nice.
